Penheaded
Shrub's Hall of Shame
Sen. Reid raises a good point with his two word ("Dick Cheney") reason for not impeaching Shrub. But then we also wonder what would be the Constitutional avenue for a two-for-one impeachment.
By coincidence this matter has been in our thoughts. The only truly appropriate whitewash would require Karl Rove as curator.
The voters of this country may not be able to get the impeachments that Cheney and Bush deserve but a lasting historical impression can be made by denying all Federal funding to Bush's presidential library. There is in no way that we should be building monuments to the cluster fuck that this administration has been.
Liberal assault on XMass?
Can you imagine the nerve of someone thinking about peace at this time of year? Next they'll want to put consideration of God's love for all his children back into the season.
Update: This is the last time we will link to
Newsday . We shoulda known that these links would grow stale: Our apologies are offered with the expectation that a thorough search would find the subject story. This particular story referenced a dispute over a wreath with a peace symbol.
Amy Gahran has posted on strategies to prevent this sort of thing.
Bah, humbug Friday
First year we have ever been caught up in the myth and hype of this gloriously capitalistic day.
Filled with misinformation (can't get a straight answer from these
folks) and dashed expectations, we return to our miserly roots.
NSA suits
An overview of the status of various suits against the NSA eavesdropping.
Somewhat encouraging.
The moose and the squirrel
We sometimes agreed, amongst which, we certainly find no disagreement with the position that there are constituencies not served by either of our two political parties.
Looking back on the blog, though, we find Wittman to be a suitable match for Lieberman: Can't say we wish them well, just that it
fits.
Too bad, OJ is a natural for Fox
Fox does seem to have a thing for folks that needlessly murder and never own up to it.
And the tawdry sensationalism, well, that was just the kind of journalism Fox practices in the role of champion of the American way.
Newt the nerd in the news
"I'm going to tell you something, and whether or not it's plausible given the world you come out of is your problem. I am not 'running' for president. I am seeking to create a movement to win the future by offering a series of solutions so compelling that if the American people say I have to be president, it will happen."-- Newt Gingrich, quoted by Fortune magazine.
We hit this earlier. Gingrich is the poster child for failed Repug thinking.
Thanks to Goddard and Fortune for this bit.
The tasks ahead for Democrats
We have been thinking about these matters since the election. Never have been a fan of the DLC and, as much as we enjoyed seeing Bill Clinton's pragmatism, don't want to see Hillary as the nominee.
Confronting Shrub is not some idle desire of the liberal geek. Serious and grievous wrongs have been committed upon the social and political fabric of our nation. It is entirely possible the progressive cause will not fair so well in the next election hence there is every reason to pursue our objectives now with all vigor.
All the pundits of the MSM have been straining to fit the outcome of the election into their respective version of a master narrative. The thoroughly rounded nature of that outcome has left inconvenient corners all over the op-ed pages.
NSA surveillance of political action
Again: Congress needs to send the message that this will not be tolerated.
Glad Gilmore has got the resources
This is much needed and John Gilmore seems heroic at this point.
Restoring our liberty
I hope the Democrats are up to the task.
Vista's gift reaches into the future
Part of a larger WinVista spin test, this particular machine's problems should give a great many shoppers this holiday season an idea of what they can look forward to when it comes time to upgrade that computer purchase. Microsoft and the manufacturers had hoped to pull the bacon out of the fire with the upgrade offers. Now, folks will be sizzlin' later.
Russert needs a reality check
McCain and Lieberman discuss the war in Iraq: Was there even a chance that would be a balanced and cognitive discussion?
EFF suit not quashed
The 9th Circuit will hear the case.
Rumsfeld replaced
Despite Shrub's protestations, this was in the cards. It speaks to the administration's pig-headed nature that this move was not made before the election. Rumsfeld was the front man on too many questionable decisions and represented the numerous missteps that needlessly jeopardized our fighting forces. You might have to go with the force you have but then you build the force you need.
This was predicted
here two months ago.
Yippee!!!
Let the hearings begin.
There is the serious business of governance to be done and that includes giving the voters the reasons for the mess we now have.
Repug double standard
We have been looking forward to this.
The art of the dodge
Glenn does his usual superlative job of rounding out an issue.
Ledeen is a
warmongering fool. His greatest regret at this time is probably that the bellicose incompetence of the neocons has been revealed prior to the execution of his pet project; the return to power in Iran of the Pahlavi clan.
Update: Okay: There is no known direct connection between Ledeen and the Pahlavi efforts.
There does, however, seem to be a natural affinity.
Bananaland voting troubles in Florida
It has been kicking around that the last thing we need this election is anything to undermine the legitimacy of the results. It seems like we're about two clicks away from being a banana republic.
Update: It should be noted that if the Republicans make an entirely unanticipated good showing in the elections with these legitimacy issues floating around, well, it ain't gonna be pretty.
