Health care legislative sausage won't look good on the plate
The unions have carved out a special tax exemption deal for their support of pending health care reform. Their best rationale is that it would otherwise undo collective bargaining positions taken in the past.
We are strong supporters of unions and the protection of worker rights: Trust us, we have the bona fide street creds on this. Wall Street Journal editorials aside, in the coming turmoil this will not play well on a ground level.
Previous tax exemptions for health care plans seemed a natural expression of support for a fundamental need. But juggling numbers to prove that a greater support of that basic need could be done put those lost tax dollars into play. Further juggling appears to be in order.
