The inevitable wading into the Palin mess
We assumed that comment would have to be made on the Republican nominee for Vice-President, Sarah Palin. We did not relish the task. This election, without regard for all that hangs in the balance, has become somewhat of the cartoon affair. Obama's driven performance started it off with the selection of Joe Biden as his partner: A few short years ago, just somewhat of a political joke. And now, with all the commensurate irony, comes the lie that is Sarah Palin.
The selection of Palin grows largely out of the inflation of the Hillary myth. Years of Republican spinmeisters beating that drum clouded Repug thinking on the importance of the "female" issue. Helping the decision along, the Repugs also got a gesture towards the values crowd out of the selection of Palin (where McCain has somewhat of a shaky relationship). But values not rooted in the range of human behavior become merely ritual. And the moral superiority used to justify the apparent unreality pressures folks into denial. For some reason, those lies trouble not their morals: Righteousness shall reign supreme. These past eight years we have seen what twisted righteousness can do.
Which all makes
this sordid tale seem believable. For now the evidence appears somewhat circumstantial but rather damning. Our question at this point is why no prosecution?
Update: This just keeps gettin' worse.
