Via Romenesko: Journalists, officials mistake caretaker role for entitlement
For the sake of emerging citizen journalism and a much needed realignment of the journalism profession, somebody should be telling these Maricopa County officials that public information meetings should be open to all citizens.
We in the press have significant rights of access to government only because we exercise those privileges in the name of the citizens. We have acted only as caretakers of the right to access and it is not an entitlement granted for membership in nor apprenticeship to some guild.
