Are we to become the ones we fight?
The Times puts this in perspective:
"Darwinian evolution is the foundation of modern biology. While researchers may debate details of how the mechanism of evolution plays out, there is no credible scientific challenge to the underlying theory."
The perceived position of Catholicism has been in stark contrast to the fundamentalists. The church has taken a position that was a result of the battle with Humanism and the Reformation. In recent years the church has slowly moved to respond to the evangelical surge. If this cardinal's essay is representative of the church's new outlook, we're talking major sea change.
