Rove, Nader and the Devil
So Karl Rove is walking and talking to the Devil. For sometime now it seems, Rove has had the same relationship with the Devil as he has had with Shrub. The Devil, in order to get what he wants, has sold his soul to Rove. But the Devil is still Beelzebub and has his devilish ways.
"Okay, Diabloster, everything is kinda going as I planned. We got Iraq, thanks for foggin’ the minds of the many that you were able to. Who woulda guessed that so many of those liberal do-gooders in the news media were gonna sell their souls for a by-line or some face-time and help us push as many rational, thinking people to our side as they did. That went pretty well. Everything was goin’ along just fine there, for a while. Then we hit this rough patch. Now it seems like a lot of the things we thought we were past are comin’ back to bite us in the backside. People are startin’ to figure out that they ain’t getting’ what they thought they were gonna outta the deal with us. Hell, and I mean that, we’re even hearin’ about GW’s National Guard service that was covered by our deal of four years ago. "
Rove continued on. The Prince of Darkness was thinking as he talked. And so was the Devil.
"Now, Ol’ Scratch, what I need from you is the one thing that’ll just about seal this thing up for us. I need you to really put that horned head of yours to this. Now I know it looks kinda tough right now, but remember we gave you the means to screw Sadam and collect early on that deal of yours with him. His soul will be yours shortly. We want to keep this relationship working. Remember, ‘Our God is stronger than yours’ is just a diversion when the Devil is at play. We got a lot of things that’ll probably fall our way, heck, the power of the office, a sittin’ President in war and everything else. What I need is just that one little thing that’ll divert them enough to let this other stuff work the magic."
Lucifer, without breaking stride, points his crooked finger and in a cloud of sulfur smoke….

Rove was beside himself in wonder. He had figured there was no way he could get that kind of magic to work again. That on every level this had been played out four years ago. Nader had seen the candidate that was furthest away from his vision take the office Nader had sought. In the final crunch, Nader had pushed the election over. It wasn’t what he had wanted, then.
But in the four intervening years, the Devil had worked on the heart of the old Do-Gooder. He had planted a bitter seed and watched it grow. The American electorate had rejected Ralph Nader as much as he had wanted nothing but good for them. And it cut him deeply. The Devil watched as a bitter response grew even as Nader thought he was still doing good. Nader felt that now he was going to provide a catalyst that would clearly differentiate the choices before the people. He kind of thought the same way Rove did, the magic was on the side of Shrub. He thought what he could do was make the American people live with the choice they had made four years ago when they rejected him. He knew that if they endured four more years of these policies, they would never make the same mistake again. He had come to the conclusion that one more slick sell was all they needed to never make that buy again.
"Ol’ Gooseberry, you’ve got that twinkle in your eye, " Rove said
Well, he knew there’d be the Devil to pay.
