A cluster of "I-told-you-so" and more disagreement than usual.
Microsoft to "brick" XP with SP3?
The one participant in this discussion to use Vista said they were planning on switching back to XP. John then brought up the coming SP3 for XP which will bring a bunch of the security and other features of Vista to XP.
A large part of the security of Vista is directed at the user by asking them if they are really sure they want to take some action. It can be very annoying and (with help from other "features") generally slows things down. I'm running Vista Premium on a dual-core machine with 2.5 GB of RAM. With some tweaking, I've gotten it to run almost as fast as the single processor XP machines with 1 GB: On most days.
With both XP and Vista I've sacrificed some of the visual effects for performance but there are some features of Vista I'd like to see in XP. But the one "feature" of Vista I don't want to see in XP is the heavy requirements on memory.
I'll be taking a hard look at SP3 before I deploy it broadly.

At first I thought this was going to be about
Kaus and the goat. A cool post none the less.

Corn and Pinkerton may or may not have pants on but they're spot on with their diavlogs.
Peety sent me to a vipers' nest
This is the second time in a week that following a link from the indices has sent me to a site that set off warnings from McAfee Site Advisor. This time it was the ten freakiest animals; before, a list of secret recipes.
Prior to these occurrences I had never had a problem.
A vanishing breed
A sense of the irony in this NY Times selection: The story of grey squirrels replacing Great Britain's native red.
The grey squirrel is a more efficient, more social and wider ranging animal. The red squirrel is an iconic figure of Beatrix Potter not
resistant to the pox carried by the grey.
This New York Times Magazine article is an example of dead tree journalism that gives a human depth to the craft of journalism. It is not the bread and butter of news nor an example of why a free press is necessary but just an excuse to step outside of yourself on an idle Saturday night as well as a lazy Sunday morning.
Nature finds its own way and I read the story online.
Supremes sack sex toys in Alabama
Sherri Williams said she plans to sue again on free speech grounds: "My motto has been they are going to have to pry this vibrator from my cold, dead hand."
Well, there's the problem right there; cold and unresponsive self-love.
